As we live through and try to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we face many difficult decisions. After conferring at length and considering the conditions at our venue, Long Island University, as well as travel constraints and Governor Cuomo’s ban on large gatherings, board members and staff together have decided to cancel the Left Forum 2020 conference originally scheduled for May 29-31, 2020. We at Left Forum are committed to ensuring the health and well-being of the conference participants, the public and our supporters. We have begun planning for events later this year and next. We ask that you check our website and assure you that we will be in touch soon.
Left Forum is the largest annual progressive conference in the country. Each year thousands of conference participants come together to discuss pressing local, national and global issues; to better understand commonalities, differences, and alternatives to current predicaments; and to share ideas and help build social movements to transform the world.
Whether your interest is in engaging speakers and organizers in their fields (past keynote speakers include: Angela Davis, Noam Chomsky, Arundhati Roy, Frances Fox Piven, Michael Moore, Cornel West, Amy Goodman, Harry Belafonte, Silvia Federici, Linda Sarsour, Slavoj Zizek, Alicia Garza, David Harvey and Grace Lee Boggs) or helping out with event planning, media assistance, social media and graphic design, website and database administration, fundraising, or program development and outreach — conference volunteering opportunities offer empowering, intellectual and practical experience.
We’re a small organization with a dedicated group of organizers. If you would like to volunteer with us and help organize this year’s conference and help us with other events and collaborations such as the Center for Critical Thought we would love to hear from you! Please email us at email@example.com with your resume attached and tell us a bit about yourself so we can figure out the best way for you to plug in and help us organize. We could especially use help with social media, outreach, program development, graphic design, fundraising and event planning!
If you are looking for an internship we can arrange with your school in order for you to receive school credit. Hours are flexible—we ask approx. 10 hours a week—and can be adapted to fit your schedule. Internships begin immediately.
